So you may have heard that we’ll be at Shall We Knit in Waterloo for World Wide Knit in Public Day this Saturday. Karen at Shall We Knit has been muttering for months about how last year just wasn’t crazy enough. (Why she thinks she’ll get the crazy when she invites us, I don’t know. We’re not crazy. We’ve been tested.) So we threw in the idea of dyeing demos and auctioning off the yarn for to raise funds for the Canadian Breast Cancer Support Fund. (an organization that provides financial support for women undergoing breast cancer treatment. Here, my friend Daniela speaks very eloquently about her experiences.) Which I’m starting to picture will be more like dyeing improv… “give me an occupation!…the last movie you saw with your baby brother!…a method of personal hygiene!”…to give you a taste of what it’s like to be in our dye kitchen (seriously, WE’VE BEEN TESTED!) Then Ron came up with the idea of auctioning off naming rights. So many of you come to us with great names, but we can’t always keep track. This is a way to get it out of your system. 😉
And apparently that’s not crazy enough for US.
So we’re opening up the auction. Online. For both naming rights and for the yarn itself.
The auctions will take place in the Indigodragonfly Ravelry group, to help us keep track of the bids and to be able to update the thread with any live bids. In the end, there will be a minimum of 6 colourways up for grabs. All one-of-a-kind, limited edition colourways. 4 skeins of each will be available, all in merino sock to keep things easy (but we’ll make an exception for Nut Free knitters/crocheters who claim naming rights and have something else we can throw in the pot for you!)
Rules and Guidelines:
NAMING AUCTION
There will be a total of 6 winners, 2 for each dyeing demo time slot (11 am, 1 pm, 3 pm).
All 6 Naming Auction winners will receive 1 skein of the yarn they’ve named, input into the colour’s development, a partial blog post about their colourway and its story, bragging rights (seriously…it’s all about the bragging rights) and knowing they’ve contributed to a most excellent cause.
Bids will open immediately, with a reserve bid of $24. We will take the top 2 bidders at 10:30 am, 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm on Saturday as the winners of naming rights for that dyeing timeslot. If you’ve won, we’ll quickly email you and find out the colour name you want us to dye as well as any guidelines you have.
examples: if the colour is named after your child, and there’s a colour that reminds you of them, let us know; if you have colour hatred, let us know that too; if you’ve decided that teal is colour of despair…who are we to judge? 😉
YARN AUCTION
We will be live-tweeting the dyeing demos. If you want to watch, follow us on twitter: @indigodragonfly.
Once the yarn has been dyed and is hanging up to dry, we will upload photos and start separate bidding threads for each colour in our Ravelry group. The top 3 (or 4, if we manage to get extra skeins in the pots) bids for each colourway will win the skeins. We’ll make final determinations at 4:45 pm on Saturday (just before closing).
Don’t have a Ravelry account and want to play? You can also email us with bids at orders AT indigodragonfly.ca (NOT .com) and we’ll enter a bid for you.
