Well, that was a year!

2010 was the year that:

1.  We got really serious about this yarn thing, as evidenced in January when HUGE boxes of yarn arrived on our doorstep.  That part hasn’t really stopped.

2.  Some of you conned me into starting a yarn club.  And I in turn conned Stephannie, Keri, Glenna and Sarah to jump on board.  Later Susanne, Darby and Dyakcraft also joined in.  And the Smart Ass Knitters/World Domination 1 skein club was born.

3.  We got really good at packing and shipping yarn.

Fast.

4. I started working with talented designers on pieces for our yarn. Speaking of which, you still have the rest of today to enter Natalie’s contest! Go! We’ll wait.

5.  We did our first 2 fibre fairs:  the Knitter’s Frolic in Toronto and the Knitter’s Fair in Kitchener-Waterloo.

6.  This means we also got very good at packing our Honda Civic, and felt superior to all other cars on the road, who I’m sure do NOT have cashmere airbags.

7.  We set up a shop in our home studio:

DSC_0008

8. We held the first 2 Fibre Flings at our studio. We’ll be doing another one next August…stay tuned!

9. And we moved to a house with a better shop space:

The house!

Come by if you’re ever in the neighbourhood.

10. We joined the Art Hive, and had the first gallery display of our yarn.

11. Glenna got used to being tied to a chair to work on wonderful designs for you like this:

Dec30-WillowMitts
(this is a sneak shot of the amazing Willow mitts which are being knit right before my eyes…Buffy patterns are coming soon!)

So what’s in store for 2011? More of this:

Sheepcake

Happy New Year to you and yours from all of us.

Reunion Cowl

Have you met Natalie?

Reunion

My friend Natalie is a fabulous young designer.  On our trip to Rhinebeck this year, we were all fascinated by her Reunion Cowl…snatching it from her and wearing it every which way. (I’m pretty sure we all thought we could be just as cool and cute as Natalie if we only had one of these for our very own.)  And because of the lightweight design, it’s a natural match for our MCN Lace.  Natalie graciously agreed to adapt her design for us, and now there is a medium sized Reunion Cowl!

Still big enough to wrap around twice for a cozy neckwarmer!

Reunion

Natalie is having a contest on her blog for a kit:  a skein of MCN Lace + the pattern in the colour of your choice!  (We’ll even custom dye it for you, if you don’t see something you like).  Go visit Natalie now and enter!

Kits are available now!  $30 includes all the yarn and the pattern to make this yummy cowl!

To purchase any of the above yarn, please send me an email at orders AT indigodragonfly.ca (replace AT with “@”, no spaces) indicating which colours(s) you would like, where you live and whether you want it shipped surface or air mail. First email request for each yarn/fibre secures it. I will send you a paypal invoice for the full amount plus shipping and ship the packages off within 3-5 days. Shipping charges to the US will start at $5.44 for surface mail and $7.70 for air mail. Canada Post doesn’t make shipping charges for Canadian or International packages easy, so I will send you a shipping quote for your order for your approval. Best attempts are made to photograph colours accurately, however colours do differ from monitor to monitor (I’ve checked). I’ve also described the colours…and hope that helps. Looking for yarn?  Click these links to all available yarn, *Asterisk* kits and the Buffy Collection!

The Boy has told me he wants to be more involved in the business.  He’d like to try dyeing.  He’d like to work with me to handle orders.  And um, he’s got some interesting marketing ideas…

Ron would like me to tell you that this is how he winds your yarn all the time.

And that it is a manly, MANLY task.

(I’m sorry, we can’t show you the reskeining photos.  They were just way too racy.)

(I would like to state for the record that I take no responsibility for any of these photographs)

So the Boy is willing to be your own personal yarncake winder. There’s a $1 charge, which we are putting into The Otis Houndation, to be used to sponsor arts events and arts projects that we think are Otis-worthy. We’ve been putting $1 per skein sold since our anniversary in July into the Houndation, including club skeins, so thanks for getting us off to a good start.

(Now to go work on the calendar…)

*Asterisk* Kits Now Available!

Today is December 15:  the day we release the first of the Smart-Ass Knitters/World Domination patterns as a kit for the general public!

*Asterisk* by Stephannie Roy in Indigodragonfly MCN Lace.  (Stephannie has blogged about her design here.  Go look.  I’ll wait.)

*Asterisk* is a modular, triangular shawlette that knits up very quickly!  Just the perfect layer to cozy around your neck in this cold COLD weather.  I love every tiny detail of this piece, from it’s little belly-button of a beginning, to how the “wings” swoop gracefully out, to the i-cord edging detail.

Here’s a shot of the shawl.

Modeled by the lovely Emma.

A Quiet Autumn Morn, And…Ooo!! New Yarn!!

December 12. Ah, one of the precious last few days of autumn – the leaves have fallen, and the sunsets wring the red from the graying skies, and … what the F%@$???

No, wait, it’s just something in my eye – yeah, yeah, that’s right, only seeing things. Ah, here’s the Visine – a few drops and good as new, and … Holy S#@&!!

Okay, breathe slowly, take stock, break out the parka, and make sure the furnace is ON. And for good measure, think toasty warm thoughts, like: Darn, I sure wish I had some nice warm sock yarn to keep my toes warm!

Well, since one sock won’t foot one warm keep, we thought it would be a nice thing to do to double the fun and put on line both some nice new MCN Sock as well as some of its pretty cousin, Merino Sock.

Two Flavours, No Waiting…Enjoy…Before The Avalanche…

The (unnamed) Buffy Collection

There was going to be an update of MCN Sock and Merino Sock yarn today.  But it appears that there is something a little more pressing…

Pre-sales for THE BUFFY COLLECTION (actual name to be determined…cause you know what happens when you jump to conclusions…)

What is The Buffy Collection?  A series of patterns + yarn based on characters from Buffy the Vampire Slayer packaged together for you in a kit that includes:

The Patterns by Glenna C (PDF to be shipped by early February 2011):

‘Oz’ mitts in 1 size – MCN Worsted.

copyright: Glenna C

‘Drusilla’ gloves in 2 sizes – MCN Sport and MCN Sock.

copyright: Glenna C

‘Willow’ mitt and glove options, probably 2 sizes – MCN Sock.
(no preview available yet)

The Yarn:

Oz: Hootenany – Well, It’s Chock Full Of Hoot, Just A Little Bit Of Nanny – MCN Worsted

Drusilla:  When I Bit Into Him, I Could Hear the Ocean – MCN Sport

Willow:  My World is All Askew – MCN Sock

The Buffy Collection: $93 + shipping.  To purchase, choose an option below and click on the appropriate image.

Pre-sale options:

1)  Yarn now, patterns later:  we’re dyeing the yarn now, and will ship it as orders come in.  Patterns will be emailed in PDF form as soon as they are available (by early February 2011)

2)  Everything at once:  The full kit will be shipped as soon as patterns are available (by early February — yarn by mail; patterns emailed in PDF form)

Keep warm!

It’s REALLY cold here.  The house is ok, but my office?  Really REALLY cold.  And about 10 degrees colder than the rest of the building.

I seem to feel warmer when I have my neck covered.  I’ve kind of decided that this will be the winter of cowl and scarf knitting.  I’ve already made Westknits’ Clockwork in MCN Sock.

Less than a skein of each colour!  In fact, I could probably get 2 scarves out of three skeins.

The colours?  Not Another Teen Vampire Movie and Grrr…Argh.

Now, if I only had something to cover my cold, cold hands at the office…  hint.  hint.
