Important Executive Decision!

Hiya…

To keep you all in the loop, over the next while Indigodragonfly will be moving its inventory over to our new Etsy shop: www.etsy.com/shop/indigodragonfly

This move is to expand our client base, and to see if this will be an easier, faster method of putting stock up on line. And, to let our Inner Computer Geeks run amuck & get a little exercise in the process…

Also note, we are finding that the delivery cost parameters for shipments from the Etsy site are not the most flexible, so if a purchase is done on Etsy and we’re finding the delivery cost is more than normal, we will make every effort to refund the difference.

Technology: Gettin’ Wit’ It!

Enter Stage Left…

Over the past few months, I’ve had several designers wanting to design with my yarn.  I’m pretty excited about this…and you can expect to see a number of patterns roll out over the NEXT few months that feature indigodragonfly yarn.

And then there is Glenna.

I am Glenna’s Dye Bitch.

Glenna says, “Dye.”  I say, “How much?  What colour?  When exactly do you want it?  Do I get to sleep at any time?” And Glenna says, “So I also have ideas for eleventy-kazillion other patterns…can you get on the yarn for that?”

But at least the relationship is reciprocal.  So when I asked Glenna a few months ago if she would design a cardigan knit with my yarn in time for the Knitters Fair in Kitchener, the crazy woman said yes.  You see, Glenna and I are the Mutt and Jeff of the knitting world.  She is tall and slim.  I am…not.  We both complain bitterly about not being able to find shoes that fit.  Me, because I have size 5 feet…Glenna, because 2 of my feet stacked end to end would fit inside one of her socks.  Glenna:  dark curly hair I would die for…me, poker straight, short and mousy (before I spend some quality time with a head full of henna).   Anyway, you get the picture.  Finding a style of sweater that will work on both of us?  Not very likely.

Enter the Stage Door Cardigan.

Sept10-StageDoor4photo: © 2010 by Glenna C

I think Glenna’s really outdone herself.  Clean, simple lines.  A little shape.  A style that works on a variety of shapes and sizes.  A pattern that’s easily adjustable.  Really, I couldn’t have asked for more.

(Except maybe to have the sample knit in my size…damn…THAT was an oversight!)

Glenna and I often tweet through Glee.  So when I was watching a re-run while the yarn was sitting in front of me, waiting to be packed up and mailed off…and this exchange came on:

Kurt’s Dad:  Feeling kind of blue?
Kurt: I am full of ennui <dramatic sigh>

…the name of the colour was born:  I am Full of Ennui <dramatic sigh>

Pattern availability: Right now you can get the pattern from us at indigodragonfly in either hard copy or PDF form.  Just email us to place the order and we’ll get right back to you with an invoice and the pattern.  It is also available on Ravelry and from Patternfish.

The yarn:

The yarn is a new base with very generous yardage.  Merino Silk DK, 50% merino/50% silk, 550 yds per 250 g.  Because of the size of the skeins, we’re also willing to sell 1/2 skeins so that you don’t end up with WAY too much yarn left over.  (though I’ve knit a hat and a small pair of fingerless mitts from a 1/2 skein, so maybe you DO want leftover yarn!)

Yarn amounts needed for the pattern:

Size 33 – 2 skeins; 37 – 2.5 skeins; 41 – 3 skeins; 45 – 3.5 skeins; 49 – 4 skeins)

We have a limited number of colours available at the moment.  If you don’t see something you like here, or you need more skeins, we’ll take custom orders for delivery in late October/early November.  (More of this base is on its way to us as we speak)

Merino Silk DK – Merino Silk DK, 50% merino/50% silk, 550 yds per 250 g.
$55 per skein; $29 per half-skein  — we will break up skeins if needed.
**This yarn and the pattern are not included in this month’s discount, as they are brand new to our customers**

Places For People: A Kind Update

On September 21, we had a post on Places For People, the Haliburton home building and refurbishing project, and their pursuit of a $100K Pepsi Refresh grant through the Pepsi Refresh Project.

At the time, we were offering a 10% discount on all yarn sales (up to a maximum of 40% off) for every two places the initiative moved up in the rankings. We encouraged YOU to all vote once per day per email address. On September 21, Places For People was sitting in 27th place.

In just one day, Places For People jumped from 27th to 24th place, and so we announced a happy 15% discount for this move up.

Well, guess what?

As of noon today, September 26, Places For People has found itself nesting comfortably in 22nd place, a jump of another two spots, and five spots up in just five short days!

So what does this all mean?

To us, it says you all deserve a big Thank Ye! for putting your email addresses to good use instead of the usual, boring, day-to-day memos, office diatribes & YouTube download forwardings, and you have voted, and voted well.

And so, until the next move in the rankings, Indigodragonfly is proud to announce that all our yarns are now on sale at 25% off!!!

Yarn: Keeping People Warm in More Ways Than One!

The Pepsi Refresh Project continues until October 31, so make sure you VOTE every day! After all, is the boss really gonna give you grief for going on line for a good cause?? If they do, throw this in their sad face:

“Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love.” – 4th C. BC Philosopher Lao Tzu

Thank You.

Hey! Look What We Found In The Corner!!

So around 11 p.m. last night, after deciding the week was pretty much a write-off & nothing new was going up for sale on the website this week, we heard some rustling in a corner.

I guess they were huddling together for warmth…

Who knew sock wool liked to nest??

Anyway, a new batch of MCN Sock has arrived!

Surprise!

Enjoy!

Email indigodragonfly.K AT gmail.com to place all orders.  A PayPal invoice will be mailed to you that includes airmail shipping (or surface mail if you’re in Ontario).  For further information, see the bottom of this post.

To purchase any of the below yarn, please send me an email at indigodragonfly.K AT gmail.com (replace AT with “@”, no spaces) indicating which yarn(s) you would like, where you live and whether you want it shipped surface or air mail. First email request for each yarn/fibre/project bag/pottery item secures it. I will send you a paypal invoice for the full amount plus shipping and ship the packages off within 3-5 days. Shipping charges to the US will start at $5.44 for surface mail and $7.70 for air mail. Canada Post doesn’t make shipping charges for Canadian or International packages easy, so I will send you a shipping quote for your order for your approval.

Best attempts are made to photograph colours accurately, however colours do differ from monitor to monitor (I’ve checked). I’ve also described the colours…and hope that helps. Custom orders (including dyeing or overdyeing your own fibre or yarn) are always welcomed! Just email me with what you have in mind.

On Being Otis and An Update on Places For People

Yes, it’s been one of THOSE weeks. We’re taking a break from the usual Thursday yarn update this week as too much went down the pipe to dye, so this will have to suffice.

I’ll let Otis and his many guises speak for us…

1. Need Coffee. Stat.

2. In Honour Of Queen Elizabeth II’s 3-D Visit To Canada

3. The Look Of Surgery, or, The Painkillers Better Be Good

Okay, here’s the (poop) scoop…

Yesterday, Otis had to go in for Emergency Surgery to repair a mouth laceration (ow ow ow ow ow…). Please note the beautiful Afghan shave job…

Down a pint of blood and rather groggy, Otis came through with flying colours, minus a few teeth, a sizable cyst, all for the equivalent of almost a month’s pay in vet fees. So it’ll be Kraft Dinner time for a few months, but Otis is okay and that’s what’s important. Otis, Kim & I thank all of you for your kind words and actions 🙂

Oh yes, did I mention the landlord issues? (Insert Venting Here)

Now, back to an infinitely more positive vein…

Since the Sept. 21 post on Places For People$100K Pepsi Refresh grant, the Haliburton home building and refurbishing initiative has jumped from 27th in voting to 24th (Knitters Rock!)! Since the deal was to have a yarn sale of 10% off for every 2 spot jump (up to a maximum of 40% off), we are pleased to announce all Indigodragonfly yarns are now 15% off!! Keep in mind, though, that this is is a floating percentage and if the Places For People initiative drops, so goes the discount rate, so the question goes something like this: Do You Feel Lucky?, Well Do Ya? And remember, you can vote once a day per email address, so the more you vote, the better chance the sale will continue. So put down those needles (hey, you, you over there, PUT. THEM. DOWN.) and VOTE!!!

Social Conscience  = Community Responsibility = Good Will.

Worth far more than any dollar amount.

Vote! Places for People

This is my friend Fay (on the left):

And this is Max:

Fay and Max are both knitters.

They both work with an organization here in Haliburton called Places for People.

Affordable housing is an issue everywhere.  Here, it’s nearly impossible to find.  When we moved here just over a year ago, there were only 2 rental houses available in the County.  Now, there are even less.

That’s where Places for People come into play.  They buy run-down properties

and renovate them with community support.

Then the houses are rented to low-income families at affordable rates, allowing the tenants to build assets and “get ahead.”  They even take a small portion of the rent and put it in a trust fund for the renters and give them access to skills and education resources so that they can truly build a future for themselves.  Oh, and they purchase properties within walking distance to shopping areas and schools, so that an active, healthy lifestyle is encouraged as well.

This film shows the process:

So what does that have to do with you?  Places for People is up for a $100K Pepsi Refresh grant.  Would you go and vote for them?  You can vote once per day per email address, EVERY DAY until October 31.

My wish list:

I’d love to see Places for People get more exposure — if more people are aware of the work they do, I’m hoping they will donate to their cause and tell everyone they know.

I’d love to see Places for People move up in the ranks in this competition — moving up shows that more people are aware.

I’d love to see more people talking about Places for People.  I’ve already noticed several of my Haliburton-based friends posting links to encourage people to vote.  (Which is a great reminder!)

And I know knitters are a force to be reckoned with!  We all step up to the plate, over and over again, to support our friends and colleagues.  (Did I mention Max and Fay — the knitters?)  So please consider going to vote here:  http://www.refresheverything.ca/placesforpeople.

Consider voting every day until October 31.

Consider telling everyone you know.

And in exchange, as I eagerly watch Places for People go up the ranks, I’ll offer a discount of 10% for every 2 places P4P moves up before October 31.  (They started at 27.)

Three Course Deal

In keeping with the ragged feelings left over from working all day at the Kitchener-Waterloo Knitters Fair and then having the thrill of processing a 200-skein order, we sluggishly present several colours of three yarns that were brave enough to face the K-W crowds…

DK Organic Merino: 225 yards of squishy, amazing-to-knit-with 100% Ultrafine Organic Merino!

MCN Worsted: Four new colourways for this bouncy fave!

Merino Bamboo: Yes, these Big Boys are back! 650 yards, 60% Merino, 40% Bamboo, 100% Wow! (Spoiler Alert: One of the Merino Bamboo colourways may cause temporary blindness – do not attempt to knit while driving!)

Three Courses: Bon Appetit!

Bad Dress Rehearsal

1. We are here in Kitchener for the Knitters Fair.

2. Driving in Kitchener is not exactly a walk in the park. Many have written about it. The city just does not make sense.

3. We ordered 3 tables for our 10×10 booth. Logic dictates that all 3 tables should fit in said booth. They did not. Still, we made it work.

4. Apparently having your tables stick out a foot into the aisle is not good. Fine. We fixed it.

5. Ok, so “fixing it” still means that the tables stick out exactly 1.5″ into the aisle. That 1.5″ means the fire Marshall will (and I quote) shut down the show. (are you listening Jack Bateman, former Fire Marshall of Ontario? You’re laughing, aren’t you?). I do not want to be personally responsible for that many angry knitters.

6. This is the booth equivalent of “gauge lies”.

7. Yes Sandi, I did order tables based on the measurements I was provided with.

8. See #6.

9. Our booth is, um, more constricted than we would like. Sorry.

10. I needed beer.

11. And chocolate.

12. The vending machines in our hotel require our room key to access them.

13. Guess how that went.

14. Thank goodness for extra keys.

15. We have the only vending machine on the planet with no chocolate.
